Performance

 

Steeling the Heart: Women Turning the Tide During World War II

 

Thursday--Saturday, March 25-27, 2010, 8:00 PM

Marion Kleinau Theater, 2nd floor COMM Bldg.

Admission: $5 students / $7 general

 

Delving into the details of both the everyday and the extraordinary during a time of war, Steeling the Heart explores what it was like for women who were commissioned into the Navy WAVES (Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service) for the first time during WWII. Through the narrative of experiences of these amazing women, this performance explores themes of gender relations, industrialization, war and peace, class, and race.

We invite all who are interested in peace in the Middle East to participate in an interdisciplinary symposium, "Higher Roads to Peace", at Southern Illinois University Carbondale on April 5 and 6, 2010. There is no cost to participate.
